We have a junior section as part of Durham Triathlon Club.
We offer year round weekly swim coaching and monthly tri training sessions from April to October and we are working on new sessions for juniors. The Tri training sessions mainly focus on cycling skills, transition training together with some running and agilty. Most of our members are also members of running clubs and some are also members of cycling clubs such as Durham Harriers, Durham City Velo and Hetton Hawks. Some of our juniors attend Durham City Velo cycling club run coached sessions on alternate Sundays from 3pm-5pm.
There are two junior Parkruns in the area on Sundays at 9am and many of our juniors regularly attend these:

The juniors swim each Saturday at Freemans Quay. Sign on is in the ‘café’ area in Reception from 4.10pm and the session runs from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Coaches may recommend that your child only attends part of the session depending on their swimming ability or if they are particularly tired on a given day. Please ensure that you stay in the building if your child is not a strong swimmer. If you are swimming yourself at the same time then you'll need to end your session in these circumstances. The young ones will get too cold sitting on the poolside in wet kit and we are not able to supervise them in the changing rooms. We would much rather that they enjoyed a shorter session and look forward to coming back again.
We have three lanes reserved so we are able to cater for a range of abilities but it does mean places are restricted so swimming is only open to club members
The Junior section caters primarily for young people in the age range 8 – 16. We do ask that everyone should be able to swim at least 50m (2 lengths) confidently as our coaches are qualified to develop existing swimmers rather than teach beginners to swim. Having said that, we take the view that sport should be a pleasure not a chore so all sessions do feature an element of fun.
