Have a go at an aquathlon with GOTRI Newcastle Tri Club’s four low cost aquathlon events on Thursday evenings alongside the coached open water swim sessions at Astbury Mere.

400m open water swim (one course lap), then 1.6km / 1 mile run (one lap) around the lake

Please note the minimum age for entry is 13.

Rules

All super sprint entrants must be able to swim 400m comfortably. Wetsuits are compulsory.

A parental consent form is required for anyone under 18 years old. The event will be run by the British Triathlon Federation rules.

Entry fee: £6 (which includes further swimming after the race, if you wish)

Questions and answers

Q. How do I enter the aquathlon?
A. Fill in the online entry form (to be published), or pay on the day.

Q. Will I be sent my bib number or information?
A. No – GOTRI Newcastletriclub will record your overall time and submit the time to GOTRI.ORG to put onto their website.

Q. Where is the swim?
A. The swim is in Astbury Mere lake so wetsuits are mandatory if water temperature is below 14 degrees centigrade. You must be able to swim 400m comfortably to enter this aquathlon.

Q. Do I need any special equipment?
A. For the swim, you will need a hat and goggles, swimsuit and wetsuit. In transition which will be at the exit of the lake, you will need a pair of trainers, trisuit or a T-shirt and shorts to run around the lake.

Q. What are the ground conditions for the run at Astbury Mere?
A. The surface underfoot is well-made gravel paths around the lake. It may be muddy and uneven in places, so please be careful.

Q. What is the minimum age?
A. Minimum age for these events is 13 years old and a parental consent form is required for anyone under 18 years old.

Q. Where can I get changed?
A. There are hot showers and toilets available at Peak Pursuits clubhouse next to the start.
