Chairman’s Blog – Time to swim? – 1 May 21

Hi All,

At we start a new month it is with pleasure that I can say that things are starting to look up.  Fingers crossed that we keep on track with the government’s road map which will enable us to continue to look forward to a bright and active summer (and I had my first COVID jab).

I have also been so encouraged to see so many juniors getting back to the sessions.  It is truly great to hear the positive feedback and know that they are really enjoying it. Today they would have been doing some transition training, after the running and bike session and next week we should be getting them back in the pool which is great news.

Today has seen the first of five – every Saturday in May - open water swim events for the adults put on by the club.  It was great to see so many people in attendance – the water will get warmer and the weather will get better so remember to book on when you can make it.

We also have some positive news about pool swimming for the adults.  The recent survey would be some indication of the opportunities that are open to us (I do hope you all got the chance to complete it).  We are looking at the results and the Saturday morning opportunity seems to be a very popular session.

Other opportunities still being considered are Blandford leisure centre on a Tuesday evening (20:00 – 21:00) and back to Bryanston School pool on a Thursday evening (18:30 – 19:30)

The change of venue would give the club even more scope to offer swimming to members of a broader ability group.  If we can use it in its six-lane configuration then we may be able to put on session’s which includes a total beginner’s group as well as a better mix in each lane to match people with similar abilities and pace.

More details to follow and if all is well we may be able to start these sessions late May early June.

Hope to see you all at a coaching session very soon

Stay safe,

Chris
