TrYthan do AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds

What a weekend of racing

Trythan were down in force to Leeds at the weekend with a total of 10 club members competing at the AJ Bell Leeds triathlon. Triathletes were met with a tough course in all races, plenty dead turns on the bike routes and a mega hilly run course which certainly tested everyone

First up on the Saturday was Jim Callander in the sprint race, Jim had a cracking race finishing 6th in his age group and in a time of 1.33.07, well done Jim

John Hunter finished 7th in the short swim sprint race, great performance John.

Hannah Brown fired off in the sprint too with a 17min swim, 47:40 bike leg and solid 5k run, finishing in 10th in her ace group in 1:51.41.

Next up in the morning was Ella Chalmers in the Youth A Category, 200m swim, 10k bike and 2.5k run, Ella smashed out an ace race coming out of the swim with the main front pack in 2:50, Ella hammered out a great bike leg and dug in deep with run leg to finish home in 17th place overall in 41:31.

Harris Callander and Euan Murphy were both up next in the Tri- star 3 race, 200m swim, 5k bike and 2.5k run, Euan had an excellent swim, going into T1 well up the field, He had a cracking bike leg with his biking skills keeping him in the mix going into the run, Euan finished in a time of 34:03 and in 34th place.

Harris came out the swim in a good time of 3:21, hammered into the 1km T1 with his run speed and onto the bike leg which he stuck in well with, entering into the run section, Harris was one of the quickest run times in his age group to power home in 27th position 0verall and in a time of 32:26

On the Sunday it was on to the Standard distance British championships (world age group qualifier) 1500m swim, 36k bike and 10k run.

First in was Keith Paterson, first time at racing this distance, Keith had an excellent swim and onto the bike leg pulled out a strong bike leg before hitting the challenging run course, Keith powered home in 3hr 16min and in 94th in his age group.

Sean Murphy was next in the water, with a strong swim leg, Sean went onto the bike and smashed out a bike leg in 1hr:10, going onto the run, Sean was looking strong and finished the race in 71st position in a time of 2hr 44min, fantastic effort and good prep for his full distance race coming up in July.

Dennis Chalmers was up next and hoping to get in the time qualification for the world age group qualifiers. Dennis had a great swim leg in 27:00min, hammered out the bike course 1hr:02 and dug in deep for 42min in the run and finishing in 2hr 20min which was inside the qualification bracket and in 19th position overall.

Last in for Trythan was Claire Murphy, Racing back on home territory, Claire was well up for it. Claire totally smashed out the swim leg in 26mins and pulled out a fantastic bike leg in 1hr 21 and that was with knocked right off her bike into the barriers by another competitor, Claire shook it off and carried on and powered into the run and completing the race in 3hr 02min and a brilliant 26th place in her category.

Overall a tremendous weekend for our athletes and brilliant weekend had by all. Roll on the next one
