TriBB Members finally get to Race - Paul Davis' Story of the Evolve Half Distance Tri

Well my tri journey started last May. I had started cycling 18 months prior after quitting smoking and putting on 5 stone. With the use of the bike, I lost a good part of that. Then a friend suggested I should try a triathlon. I hadn’t a clue where to even start! I could barely swim 10 lengths of the pool, let alone run! But low and behold, I signed up to it. It was a very small event of 200m swim, 5k cycle and a 1 km run. It was so much harder than it looked and i came last by a mile, but was bitten by the bug! I booked onto Skipton GoTri, then Bramley put on a GoTri and it really appealed. So off I went, again, still couldn’t swim properly, but did the tri and met some amazing people! So I started to train with TriBB on a Tuesday night and slowly the swimming came on, training elsewhere too for the open water aspect. Fast forward 9 months, after CV19 wipes out all my intermediate training triathlons, I headed into a half Ironman event today with nothing to compare it to.

Well what an incredible day! Set out with no real expectations, just the goal of finishing in the 8 hour limit. The weather wasn’t the best but it couldn’t dampen the spirit. The gods played a trick giving me number 13, but it proved to be lucky! The swim was amazing and I’d never felt as strong. Watch time of 46minutes! Then out onto the bike which was nice and strong and paced per sector. Then the dreaded run! Managed it in a respectable 2:28. So my overall time according to my watch was 6hr53 so factor in transition and I’m more than happy with today! Far too many to thank for today, you all know who you are!

So proof that if you want something, you can achieve it
