Amazing August

Another amazing month for ATC in August saw some brilliant performances in local triathlon events. Kicking off the month on 3rd August were Ian Readman, Brett Lambert and Ryan Pearson who took on the Cleveland Steelman Middle Distance Triathlon. This was a 2km Open Water swim in Ellerton Lake, a 58 mile bike topped off with a half marathon run. The heat made the run very difficult but all three managed to get round in impressive times. Ian completed in a time of 5:37:22, Brett finished in 6:04:19 and Ryan in 6:34:18, awesome!

The following week saw some great achievements at the Try on the Tyne multisport festival on 10th August. In the 5km run along the river Charlotte Howell finished in a time of 43:30 and in the Sprint Duathlon, a 5km Run, 20km Bike, 2.5km Run, we had 3 club members participating. Tony Williams finished in a time of 1:22:37, Alan Kellett in a time of 1:26:51 and Anne Kellet finished in 1:47:04. Dan Lewis was also competing in the Standard distance Duathlon, a 10km Run, 40kmbike, followed by a 5km Run finishing in 2:40:31. Great results and fantastic to see the club represented. Well done everyone.

Next up on the 14th August, whilst not triathlon related, we had a team of ATC’s finest taking on a quiz night in Ferryhill. All club members gave their all in this event, only just missing out on a podium position, finishing 4th. Better luck next time guys.

The 18th August saw ATC in action again at the Hartlepool Big Lime Sprint Triathlon. That’s a 750m Open water swim, 20km bike followed by a 5km Run. Our very own Flying Scotsman Mick Casey came in first in his age group with a time of 1:29:43 followed by Jim Wilson who was 5th in the same category with a time of 1:36:36. Tracey Rimmer just missed out on a podium position coming in 4th in her category with a time of 1:37:11. The V40-45 category saw Danny Shoulder finish 10th in 1:23:06 and Dan Lewis 11th in 1:29:26. Last but not least Chris Burtenshaw in the Senior Men finished 9th in a time of 1:20:59. Amazing results by everyone with fantastic support.

The final Triology Super Sprint event on 18th August had 6 ATC members making the short trip to Ellerton to compete in this award winning event. Due to road closures the bike leg of the course had been changed to cause some last minute anxieties though everyone adapted well to this. The triathlon consisted of a 400m open water swim, a 10km bike and a 2.2km mixed terrain run.The event was an important one for a number of reasons, firstly some friendly rivalry and bragging rights at stake between three of our members Danny, Ian & Chris. Also podium positions up for grabs in the Regional Grand Prix for Mick Casey who's closest rival was also competing. Finally an inspirational return to triathlon for Penny Johnson following a long recovery from injury, the event last night was exactly five years since making her triathlon debut at the same event! The race got off to a flying start with all ATC members getting out of the water and through transition to the bike extremely fast. They all looked strong on the bike leg with Chris, Danny & Ian coming into transition almost at the same time. Jim, Mick and Penny also coming in strong within a few minutes of each other.Taking 1st again in the V60 category was Mick Casey (beating his rival in the grand prix stakes) in a time of 42.02.2, Jim Wilson came in an impressive 4th position in the same category with a time of 44.25.3. Penny Johnson finished strong in an amazing 9th position in her category with a time of 48.32.1 showing her true grit and determination that is characteristic of her. Ian Readman and Danny Shoulder were both strong in the V40 category with Ian finishing in 5th position with a time of 36.19.8 and Danny in 10th position with a time of 37.33.8. In the Senior category Chris Burtenshaw finished in a time of 37.56.9 in 12th position. A great event with a fantastic atmosphere, all ATC members put in fantastic performances.
