June has been jam packed with with events with ATC competing in local, and not so local triathlon races! First up competing in the Day at the Lakes Triathlon was Ryan Pearson taking on the 1/2 iron man distance, this was an epic 2km open water Swim, a 48 mile bike followed by a 21km run. Ryan finished in a time of 6:21:30.Trevor Dixon also competed in the Day at the Lakes Triathlon taking on the 1/4 iron man distance, that’s a 1km open water swim, a 28 mile bike and 10km Run. Trevor finished 8th in his age group in a time of 2:58:33.
On 3rd June Zoe Savage competed in the Army UK North Triathlon at Ellerton Water Park. Zoe finished the 500m swim, 20km bike, 5km run in a time of 1hr 24, fantastic achievement.
The 8th June saw ATC members taking part in the Great North Swim, Peter Jarps competed in the 2 mile event coming in with a time of 75 minutes, also competing was Penny Johnson in the mile swim; another fantastic result in the difficult 'choppy' conditions. Also competing at the great north swim was Austin Donaghue taking on the epic 5km event, finishing in a time of 1:29. Finally on 9th June Trevor Dixon was competing again at the Everyone Active 10K at Marske coming in 28th place in a time of 39:02.
On 9th June Zoe Savage fresh from the standard distance triathlon competed in the Cotswolds 113 half Ironman in a fantastic time of 6:14:15. Zoe celebrated with a well deserved glass of vino!. Again on 9th June at the World Triathlon Series in Leeds ATC were represented by Alan Kellett, Tracey Rimmer and Michelle Richardson. Alan managed an amazing podium finish coming in 3rd in his age category with a time of 1:48:50. Michelle Richardson completed her first triathlon in an impressive 2:14:03. Tracey Rimmer finished in a time of 2.06.00. Amazing efforts.
The 15th of June was another great day for ATC this time at the Arthur Puckrin Memorial Triathlon with 4 people competing in the 1500m Swim, 25 mile bike and 5.5 mile trail run. Graham Atkins finished 5th in his age category v50 with a time of 2:20:00, in the v40 category Ian Readman finished 13th with a time of 2:26:47, Brett Lambert was 17th with 2:29:03 and Danny Shoulder 20th in 2:37:53.
An amazing achievement and milestone for the club was our first ever GoTri event on 19th June at Woodham Academy. This was an entry level 200m swim followed by a 2km trail run. The event was a fantastic success enjoyed by all who participated. Well done to everyone for giving multi-sport a tri! We hope to run another soon.
A special mention this month to Fraser Kirkley who competed in the first Ironman Ireland event. Due to the atrocious weather conditions the swim leg was rightly cancelled for safety reasons but Fraser completed the 112 mile bike and 26.2 run leg in an impressive time of 11;22:46. Amazing effort. Well done Fraser.
At the award winning Triology Super Sprint, a 400m Open Water Swim, a 10 mile bike and 2km run, ATC was again well represented. Mick Casey completed in a time of 52:39.2 to pick up 2nd in the V60 category, Jim Wilson came in 3rd in that category with a time of 55:59.5 and in 4th position was Kevin Greenall with a time of 1:05:27.1. Amazing performances and a great turnout. Podium positions too! In the V40 category Danny Shoulder completed in a time of 51:48.8 in 19th place and Dan Lewis in a time of 56:38.5 in 27th place. In the Senior men Chris Burtenshaw finished 4th in a time of 48:38.6, well done!
At the Ripon Triathlon Festival, 29th - 30th June, the Open water swim event saw 3 ATC members compete; Dan Halladay, Austin Donoghue (3km event) and Michelle Scott (1.5km event) . Well done to Dan Halladay winning the 3km Open water swim and to Michelle Scott winning the 1.5km Swim, awesome effort. Austin finished in 10th place in the same event; firmly putting ATC on the map.
The following day in Ripon was the Standard Distance Triathlon, a 1.5km OW swim, 25 mile bike and 10km run. This event saw 5 club members competing in the challengingly hot conditions. Trevor Dixon completed in 2:40:23, Chris Burtenshaw finished in 2:48:22, Danny Shoulder 2:51:58, Tom Graham 3:07:25 and Mick Casey finished in 3:20:59.
Also on 30th June was the fantastic Ponteland Sprint Triathlon which saw two ATC members competing in the 400m pool swim, 20km bike and 6km run. Ryan Pearson completed in 1:25:22 and Den Dale in 1:44:20.
What an amazing month for ATC... if Carlsberg did Tri clubs!
