Non-coached activities

Non-coached activities

Non-coached recreational activities are defined by British Triathlon to be sessions that have a session leader/navigator (not acting as a coach) who takes responsibility for organising the group but is not responsible for the health and safety of the group. These may include club rides, club/park runs, and open swim sessions (pool and open water).

These sessions are advertised on our members-only facebook group and team app.

For club members wishing to organise and advertise such a session, all we ask is that it is made explicit that the session will not be coached, and details are given about what, if any, supervision is offered, e.g. if there is a navigator for the ride or a spotter for open water swimming.  Please email coaching@durhamtri.co.uk if you are unsure about a session you are planning, or to feedback on any coached training needs identified during the session. Anyone wishing to organise such a session should also be sure to read the good practice guidelines (see attached).

The reason for being insistent on this is due to insurance regulations - not to make organisers lives more difficult!

Recommended wording for a facebook post is: “This is a non-coached session, organised by (organiser name), but participants should be aware that they are responsible for their own health and safety, and this is not the responsibility of (organiser name) or Durham triathlon club.”
