Coaching

The club has built up a strong coaching team - around 15 members are coaches, some 10% of the membership! - and continues to encourage members to become coaches by supporting them achieve coaching qualifications.

Our team is currently led by Paul Williamson, our Head Coach and Jaquie Dixon our Coach Coordinator.  We also have lead coaches for each of the 3 triathlon disciplines:  Steve Goodlad is the lead swim coach, Brian Wright lead bike coach and Colin Bradley lead run coach.  As our BTF Level 3 coach, Colin Bradley also helps mentor the other coaches and provides one to one run and swim analysis.

The coaching team:

  • Offer weekly coached sessions in all disciplines (there are further 'led' sessions too)
  • Hold 1-2-1 run and swim analysis sessions, making use of video analysis (subject to booking)
  • Organise workshops and other events - e.g. practical skills such as transition, group riding, open water swimming and talks on subjects such as sports psychology and nutrition
  • Offer ad-hoc advice - e.g. publishing guidelines on training effectively, and advice on 'going long'

There is no extra charge for coached sessions as this is included within the annual club membership fee.  It is necessary however to charge a small fee, on a session by session basis, to cover the cost of venue hire (swimming pool or running track) where required.

For more information, including understanding the difference between coached and led sessions, please see the Club's Coaching Charter.
