Get into Triathlon

Get into Triathlon

Have you ever thought about having a go at Triathlon?

Do you swim, ride a bike and run?

Are you looking for a new challenge?

Do you want some motivation to get active over the next 8 weeks?

Are you looking to enter a competition?

If you answered yes to any of the questions, then Triathlon might be for you!

Ulverston Triathlon Club are running a Get into Triathlon course, aiming to introduce new people into Triathlon and the world of Multisport events.

The course will run for 6 weeks, covering all aspects of triathlon including swim, bike, run and training. You will receive coaching from British Triathlon qualified coaches with years of experience in training, racing and coaching all aspects of Triathlon.

At the end of the course you have the chance to compete in a Sprint Triathlon, putting into practice everything that you have learned over the previous 6 weeks.

You will get the opportunity to train with other people with similar triathlon experience, and enjoy the benefits of group coaching. Experienced triathletes and coaches will also be available for you to learn from.

Sessions will run from 25th May to 6th July, with the UTC Friday Night Triathlon happening on Friday 12th July.  This event is a short triathlon, great for first timers. Head over to our Events page for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

How good do I have to be at swimming for me to take part in the swim sessions?

We cater for all swimming abilities but we do ask that you are able to swim 50m (2 lengths) unaided before signing up for the course.

What equipment do I need?

For swimming: a swimming costume or trunks and a pair of goggles (and maybe a swim hat, if you have long hair)

For the bike: a roadworthy bike with pumped up tyres and working brakes and a helmet that fastens under the chin. Road bikes are recommended but not required, any bike will do!

For the run: a pair of trainers

I can’t make some of the sessions, can I still take part?

Of course you can! The course is inclusive and aims to teach you the fundamentals of swim/bike/run, get to know like minded people and most of all, have fun!

I don’t want to swim (or bike, or run), can I still take part?

Of course you can! Plenty of club members don’t like to swim, bike or run and that’s fine. You can still take part in a relay team and pick the disciplines that you do and don’t want to do.

Saturday morning isn’t a good time for me. Can I still take part?

Of course you can! We have a club swim session on a Thursday evening at Barrow Leisure Centre (8:30pm - 9:30pm), you can join this swim session instead, as well as our running session on a Tuesday night, in Ulverston, (6pm - 7pm). We may also look to run some of the run/bike sessions on a Sunday if there is sufficient demand.
