For Wimpole Parkrun the volunteer positions were once again filled by our club members - including the lovely Helen in a special birthday crown! It was a bit of a mizzly morning but everyone’s spirits were high, and a respectable 319 people turned up to run the winter course and the hill clearly presented no problems for this week’s winner, Ben Jones, who finished an incredible 2.5 minutes ahead of the second runner. And the achievements certainly didn’t end there, with Laura Arnold from the Vegan Runners celebrating her 50th parkrun, and David Gledhill achieving his 250th! That’s some serious dedication.
The furry friends were out in force, too, as were the sheep - some of the runners narrowly avoided being bowled over by them on the home stretch! But that’s just an occupational hazard of running at Wimpole, and one that always makes the course more interesting.
The best thing about a Steeple Chasers parkrun takeover is the fact that you can always expect lots of cake at the end! All of the biscuits, muffins, and baked goods went down a storm with the runners, and there really wasn’t much leftover.
Parkrun takeover is always a blast, and we all look forward to doing it again soon!
