How did you get into Triathlon?

It was approximately 5 years on honeymoon. I had heard a lot of people I know talk about it and watched it. I already liked cycling and running, I just needed to learn to swim properly. I started to look for Adult swim lessons, and eventually found some local. Vanessa and did this together and we learnt to swim. I entered my first  Go Tri in Cannock in April, which was a super sprint.

This went ok so I decided to enter a sprint triathlon in May 2015 Highly in Shropshire. I managed to complete the swim, just about, it was in a cold out door pool. I really enjoyed the bike ride and run which was by the river, but I wasn’t sure if I would do another one due to the swim. Vanessa persuaded me to enter into another one in July at Droitwich. I did a lot of swim practice in the pool at Droitwich and on the day really enjoyed the whole event and that was that, I entered Lichfield Sprint in 2016 and started to swim outdoor in 2016. I entered my first open water sprint at Cliff Lakes 2016 and really enjoyed this. I haven’t gone beyond the open water sprint yet, but would like to do a standard distance this year.

What is it you love about Triathlon?

Triathlon is a multi-faceted sport, I really enjoy each element of the sport and although I have just ran, I do prefer to run, swim and cycle bringing all these elements.

Is there a race you would recommend?

My experience is limited but I do enjoy the Sprints at Lichfield and Cliff lakes and also the one I just completed at Wombourne, They are well organised and supportive, especially for Novices people like me.

Have you suffered a mishap or funny situation leading up to or during a race? ·

Not in a race, but I thought I would try out the route on the triathlon I had just booked and during the bike ride, one of the screws from my cleats popped out, I managed to find it and then when I checked the rest were also loose. During the ride my new tri bars also moved when I went over bump. When I got home I found the seat post was also loose. Needless to say all were then corrected ready for the Race the following Sunday.

Do you have a favorite piece of race kit?

Haven`t really got a favorite piece of race kit but I do like my new bike with the tri bars and I do like my Garmin watch to help monitor how I am doing.

What is your personal sporting highlight or achievement?

My first half marathon I did in 2010, I was pleased with my time and enjoyed the atmosphere

Do you have a dream or bucket list event?

Which sportsperson do you admire and why?

Bradley Wiggins, the first UK person to win the Tour de France. I think its an incredible achievement when the race is over 3 weeks to keep consistent over that period is incredible.
