Running Drills and Skills Sessions

The start of the drills and skills course is on Friday. You do not need to come to all the sessions if you're not able, pick and choose to suit your schedule.

Details of the session plan are below:

Week One - Running posture (Friday 12th May 1830hrs)

Good posture is fundamnetal in running. In the first week, after a gentle warm-up and stretch, we will focus on functional balance, head, knee and hip positions and then translate this into our runnning.

Expected distance for the entire session 3-4km

Week Two - Running Cadence (Friday 19th May 1830hrs)

In the second week we will focus on running cadence, stride length and force production to increase speed and efficiency.

After a gentle warm up and stretch will calculate our natural cadence and discuss the optimal cadence. Following this we will use drills, including skipping and bounding, to explore force production and then translate this into our running.

Expected distance for the entire session 3- 4km

Week three - Foot postion and contact time (Friday 16th Jun 1830hrs)

In the third week, we are going to look at foot placement and ground contact time. After a gentle warm up, we will use fast feet drills to build on the previous work looking at runnig cadence. We will then translate this into longer running intervals (up to 1.2km at a steady pace).

Expected distance for the session 3-4km
